Recreational skating school

The Recreational Skating School offers a variety of learning opportunities for every age and skating level.

The skating school offers classes at 10 locations for ages 2 and up: Lansdowne court, Bernard-Grandmâitre Arena, Brewer Arena, J.A. Dulude Arena, Jim Durrell Complex, McNabb Arena, Barbara Ann Scott Arena (Pinecrest R.C.), Tom Brown Arena, Sandy Hill Arena and Jack Charron Arena.

Private and semi private lessons are also available. Skills covered will depend on participant’s level. For private lesson registration information please call 613-580-2424 ext. 41460.  CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for all skaters.

2-4Frosty Blades25Get acquainted with the ice, standing and shuffling. An adult on skates with some skating experience must accompany the toddler for each lesson. Once passed, register in snowgliders or just you and me.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters, including the adult. A full face mask is highly recommended.
3-4Just You N’ Me 50Learn to skate for the non-skater. An adult on skates with some skating experience must accompany the child for the first three lessons. Once passed, register in kindergliders. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters, including the adult. A full face mask is highly recommended.
 4-5Snowgliders 25Learn to skate for children who are new to ice. Children should be comfortable without parental involvement. Once passed, register in kindergliders, junior intro to ice or junior gliders. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters. A full face mask is highly recommended.
4-5 Kindergliders 50Learn to skate program for children with some skating experience. Work through 5 levels and receive a badge based on ability. Learn forward skating and stopping skills. Once passed all 5 levels, register in junior gliders. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters. A full face mask is highly recommended.
6-12 Junior Intro to Ice 50Learn to skate for children who are new to ice or have limited skating experience. Learn correct forward skating and stopping skills. Once passed, register in Junior Gliders. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters. A full face mask is highly recommended.
 6-12Junior Gliders50For children who can skate forward and beyond. Levels 1-5. Skills may include backwards skating, one foot gliding, and two foot turns. Once passed all 5 levels, register in senior gliders.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters. A full face mask is highly recommended.
 8-12Senior Gliders 50For skaters that have passed all 5 levels of the Junior Gliders program. Skills may include backwards crosscuts, one foot turns and waltz jumps. Once passed all 4 levels, register in mastergliders.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
8-14Child Mastergliders50For young skaters who have completed the Senior Gliders program. Work towards figure skating goals including edgework, spirals, and one foot spins.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
15-17Teen Beginner50For teens who can skate forward and beyond. Skills include backward skating, one foot gliding and two foot turns. Once passed all 5 levels, register in intermediate.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
15-17Teen Intermediate50Emphasis placed on increased technical skills (e.g. backwards crosscuts and one foot turns).  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
15-17Teen Mastergliders50For young skaters who have completed the Senior Gliders program. Work towards figure skating goals including edgework, spirals, and one foot spins.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
18+Adult Intro to Ice50A learn to skate program for adults who are new to ice or have limited skating experience. Learn how to fall and get up safely, skate forward and stop. Once passed, register in adult beginner. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
18+Adult Beginners50For adults who can skate forward and beyond. Skills include backward skating, one foot gliding and two foot turns. Once passed all 5 levels, register in adult intermediate.  A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
18+Adult Intermediate50Emphasis placed on increased technical skills (e.g. backwards crosscuts and one foot turns. A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters.
